Acid batteries are controlled by Valve regulated lead acid (vrla) which are divided into two categories.
AGM
Gell
Lead-acid batteries (Flood)
These batteries are mainly used for network-independent solar power projects due to their low cost and high lifespan. However, periodic maintenance is needed to extend its lifespan, which can be used to check the battery level, keep the terminals clean, and periodically correct the charge.
VRLA batteries
The performance of these batteries is similar to those of lead acid water, except that the battery is embedded in a chamber that has an anti-leakage insulator. Therefore, the electrolyte can not move inside the battery. This battery is commonly used in non-networked solar systems due to the following conditions.
A: It can be easily moved without the risk of leaking acid because electrolyte is well preserved. And also does not require an equilibrium process.
B: Due to the fact that the hydrogen gas is not charged in the process of charging it is low risk. If the excess gas is charged, the regulating valve that is installed inside the battery is opened and the oxygen and hydrogen produced are discharged.
C: These batteries provide more charge and discharge than lead acid batteries.
D: There is less maintenance. However, it should always be checked that the terminals are clean.
Disadvantages of VRLA batteries:
A: More expensive than lead acid batteries
B: There is less tolerance to overvoltage because the water loss of the batteries is not replaceable.
In this case, the equalizing process should not be done on these batteries because they can not withstand the overvoltage conditions.
